Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge
Nestled beside the Selkirk Mountains of northern Idaho, this 2,774 acre refuge provides diverse habitats for a large variety of wildlife including moose, elk, deer, bear, otter, bald eagles, and migratory waterfowl such as mallards, northern pintail, and teal. Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge is located in Idaho's Panhandle approximately 20 miles south of the Canadian border and 5 miles west of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Established in 1964 as a migratory waterfowl refuge, Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge provides habitat for more than 220 species of birds, 45 species of mammals, and 22 species of fish. Wetlands, meadows, riparian forests and cultivated agricultural fields (for producing valuable wildlife food crops) are interspersed in the valley bottom adjacent to the west banks of the Kootenai River.
Wetlands include open-water ponds, seasonal cattail-bulrush marshes, tree-lined ponds and rushing creeks. The western portion of the refuge ascends the foothills of the scenic Selkirk Mountains which consists of dense stands of coniferous trees and tranquil riparian forests.

In 2004, downtown Bonners Ferry got a facelift, with newly paved streets, inlaid cross walks along Main Street, widened sidewalks with bench seating, tree plantings and hanging flower baskets, new street lights, and new signage. Groove Studio is situated at the corner of Main Street and Kootenai Street. We purchased the building in 2004 from the family of Randall Day, a local attorney. Day had his law office there for 24 years, and prior to that, it was the old bank building. There is over 1600 square feet of very cool space, with soaring ceilings and lots of windows offering great light.

Heart Rock Wines
Open Tuesday-Saturday 3:00pm-9:00pm
Heart Rock Wines is a Wine & Craft beer store in Bonners Ferry, ID. We will be happy to guide you through a tasting journey of excellent wines from the American Northwest, with an occasional foray into other regions and countries.
Our particular passion is for Washington State wineries, of which there are now around 900, whilst Idaho and Oregon will be on the map too. We serve and sell by the glass, bottle or case and our certified pourer and tasting expert will guide you through the complex flavours and tasting notes in a variety of high quality and hand-picked wines. All of our wines are from artisan, boutique wineries where the talent runs high but production does not. There are hundreds of excellent Northwest winemakers out there who deserve to be showcased, but are rarely seen in supermarkets, where most of the wines are from mass-producing, corporate-owned wineries.
And, for all of the beer drinkers out there, fear not! We also stock an ever-changing and varied selection of hand-picked Craft Beers and Ales from some of the West Coast's most exciting breweries. Pale Ales, IPA's, Red Ales, Porters, Stouts and many, many other styles... we even have a great selection of Ciders, Sake and Meads for you to try! Non-alcoholic beverages too - Whatever your tastes, we'll have something cold and delicious that is guaranteed to appeal to your particular palate!
So, if like us, you are a fan of excellent Wines and Craft Beers (as well as a delightful nibble of cheese, chocolate and charcuterie) we hope you will take the time to visit us in our beautiful new tasting cellar.

Located on the most active part of Main Street. Look for the Rooster in a birdcage on top of the building. The entry door is right beneath it. The front of the store is the home decor and gift shop. There are lots of gifts to peruse. The cafe is in the back. You wouldn't think there was even a cafe in the business just looking in the windows. It's a great cafe to have some coffee, lunch, and just take in the atmosphere. Great jazz music was playing when I stopped in. There is so much to look over at this shopping cafe.
Be bold. Go on in. It's family owned. The cafe is in the back of the store. The menu isn't too expensive. Enjoy!
